Welcome to Hélène Seiyu 聖 優 Shakuhachi 尺八 channel. Here you will find Japanese traditional and modern music played on the Japanese bamboo flute Shakuhachi. The shakuhachi is a very old instrument which used to be played by Zen monks in Japan as a tool for meditation. This flute has a unique sound which evokes nature and is deeply relaxing. Hélène likes to perform in different places besides concert halls, especially outdoors in nature.

I discovered your shakuhachi play just a few days ago. In the early hours of this morning I awoke and was unable to fall back asleep. So I looked for more of your posts and found your composition: Baobab. After one time through I pondered how your piece and play shook me to the core of being. Your masterful use of subtle and precise pitch control and volume, controling and intigrating whistling falceto sound, and singing into the flute left me mesmerized. But then you used the shakuhachi as a percussive instrument. The last percussive section, for reasons unknown to me, actually sent me to an indescribable place I'd never experienced before: totally empty joy: bliss and eneffability. Now a poet would have something memorable to say at this point, but I'm no poet and all words fail me at this point. So I'll just say this about that: WOW...WOW...WOW...JUST WOW!

The percussions parts are sacred African rhythms that I transferred to shakuhachi. My father reacted like you while listening to this piece: he told me he was sent to a place of bliss. @@AJScraps It is a Japanese flute, that you can find in Japan, or in the USA. There are shakuhachi makers in Europe as well. As to make one, I guess you can find videos about it. Good luck!
